Coming Home

Saturday after getting up and getting ready we had a few things that needed to happen and then we were told we could go home. Reed needed to be seen by the pediatrician again, I needed to be seen by the weekend on-call doctor and my nurse needed to remove the staples in my incision. They took Reed back first and later on that morning the pediatrician stopped by and said he looked great! Her words were, "He's a keeper!" Reed did lose down to 6 lbs 14 oz. which I was very concern about but with it not being 10% of his body weight they were not concerned at all. The pediatrician explained that it takes babies about a day to start waking up and especially little boys because they get circumcised so soon after birth that it causes them to be even more out of it for a little while. This was all true with Reed because he didn't want to eat at all (we had been trying every 3 hours since birth with assistance each time from lactation consultants or nurses) until we attempted at 3:30 the day after he was born. So with Reed going almost 24 hours without any nutrients it caused him to lose more weight than I anticipated, but I was reassured that he was fine.

Next, the on-call doctor stopped by and released me to go home when I was ready. I had been getting mixed messages from some of the nurses about going home. The nurse I had that morning told me that I would probably be forced to stay until 48 hours after birth because I had a c-section. I was so happy to hear from the doctor that I could go home when I was ready.

Finally, the nurse came in and was ready to take out my staples. I had been dreading this moment all day. I just didn't know what to expect and was very nervous. The first staple she tried to remove was SO painful, I was so close to tears! The nurse tried a couple of times to get it out turning it back and forth and then she decided to try the other ones and come back to that one. I was freaking out saying I have to do this times 10, but the next one was so quick and I barely felt it. It ended up not being that bad, but the first one did take five tries to get out, apparently it was in a funny spot. So now that we had completely released we were free to go. We got Reed dressed and loaded him up in the carseat for the first time. The nurse came in to check the carseat and then we were off. I got my first wheelchair ride to the car (wasn't happy about that at all). Josh's parents were there to help get everything loaded up and they video taped all the action for us. I have been trying to get the video edited before posting this post, but still haven't gotten it done. I will add the video later.

Happy family of 3 going home!

First full day with Reed!

Shortly after I posted the last post, the boredom I was feeling quickly changed and didn't stop until we went home! Our first visitors arrived around 9:30 am on Friday and we were never in the room alone all day! The day was great, we were so excited to show off Reed and I was happy to be able to see and talk to friends and family without being numb and loopy!

My doctor arrived around 10:00 and gave her orders that I was okay to get out of bed if I wanted and I couldn't wait. As soon as she left the room I called for a nurse to come get things started! I was up in a matter of no time and had Josh helping me get a shower. I felt so much better after having a shower and getting dressed in my own clothes. My nurses were shocked at how well I was recovery. I had funny comments from the nurses all day. My favorite was when one nurse opened the door to come in and I was standing in the middle of the room and we had several visitors at the time all around the room and she looked at me and said, "Are you the patient?" I told her yes and she said well I will just come back doesn't look like you need anything. I continued to get better and better as the day went on and enjoyed hanging out with Reed, family and friends.

The pediatrician that had checked Reed out also stopped by and said he looked great! He would still be seen again before we went home but so far so good! Reed stayed in the room with us all day and got passed from person to person.

We had so many amazing visitors! They all brought so many goodies and beautiful flowers. My mom was even sweet enough to go get us lunch, but while she was gone the hospital tray came and Josh decided he would just eat the hospital food instead, it was pretty funny! :) Then Laurie and Scott brought us dinner. We felt SO blessed by everyone that came by! Sorry if you came by and we didn't get your picture.

Proud Papaw back early the next morning to meet his grandson!

Aunt Amy and Papaw with Reed!

While the nurse was getting me ready to get out of bed for the first time. Josh and Amy got Reed dressed for the day. It took a couple of outfits until they decided on one!

Scott even got in on the action!

I was so excited to see Michelle! Thanks for coming by to love on Reed!

Reed meeting Mrs. Emily for the first time!!

Taking a nap with Papa!

We were so lucky to have Tom, Sydney and Miss Stella come down from Fayetteville to see us and meet Reed! It feels like just yesterday we were welcoming Stella into the world!

Harry and Sherlyn meeting Reed!

Okay, this was the funniest thing ever! I actually had to turn away because laughing is one of the most painful things on my incision. Reed was making the funniest face, not to mention the glasses on his face.

Loving on Daddy! So sweet!

Trying to get a pic with the eyes open, but the flash always makes him make a ugly face.

These pictures were actually from Saturday morning. We sent Reed back to the nursery so we could get ready. Once we got ready we went to walk the halls so I could stretch a little. We walked by the nursery and Reed was just laying in his crib in the middle of the room and I got SO sad, it actually made me cry. We brought him back to the room and just let him lay in his crib in our room.
